Divine Conversation

Posted on January 8, 2010 by Marlo Jenkins

“Divine conversation”... for some, that sounds quite unattainable. it’s really not – anyone can talk to God. When someone is honestly seeking, and wants to engage God in dialogue, God is all over that. In Jeremiah 33:3 (a book in the Old Testament of the Bible), God speaks through the prophet and says: “Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” That gets my attention! That’s God’s invitation to say, “Hey God, let’s talk.”

Up to and including Sunday, February 7 we are going to be talking about prayer (“Divine Conversation”) in our Sunday morning gatherings. You are welcome to come learn and grow with us.

I have been reading, and thinking about prayer a fair bit lately. There are some very good authors who write some very good things about this topic. For me the caution is to not allow it to stop at that… I must pray; I must exercise my faith and talk to God about life’s challneges or doubts; Sometimes I must be quiet and learn to listen to His voice; I must intentionally endeavor to cultivate an awareness of His presence with me every moment of every day.

Let me wrap up with a quote that I will be sharing in my message this weekend. It is taken from Philip Yancey’s book (“Prayer – Does It Make a Difference?”). He honestly expresses: “If prayer stands as the place where God and human beings meet, then I must learn about prayer. Most of my struggles in the Christian life circle around the same two themes: why God doesn’t act the way we want God to, and why I don’t act the way God wants me to. Prayer is the precise point where those themes converge.”

I hope to hear back from some of you on what you are learning about prayer.
