Amazing Love

Posted on April 20, 2011 by Marlo Jenkins

There’s no greater expression of love than someone dying for another. As we consider the message and meaning of the historical Easter story, we reflect, as Christians, on what Jesus Christ has done for us on the cross – Jesus stepped into a ‘train wreck’ for you and I.

His death was not merely to display God’s love for us, although it did so very powerfully. His death and resurrection brought about something amazing and significant, namely, freedom for each one of us to come into a personal and eternal relationship with God, our Creator.

This morning, I was reading Matthew’s account, in the New Testament, of Jesus’ crucifixion. A simple point of reporting that Matthew gives in Matthew 27:51 is extremely significant. He records that “… the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…” immediately after the moment that Jesus died. This is significant because it symbolizes God opening the door for personal, one-on-one interaction with each one of us who will come to him. It’s God saying, “You can come directly to me because of what my Son, Jesus, has done.”

I am so grateful for the amazing love of God that opens the way for me to know God eternally. I am grateful that I do not have to jump through hoops, stick pins in my skin, or make any kind of payment so that forgiveness is given to me… none of that! Jesus paid the price in full! Jesus died so I wouldn’t have to.
