What is a Conversation Café?
Conversation Café is a welcoming place to practice English conversations each week. This will help you talk with more confidence to English speakers. The volunteers are not English teachers, but they are happy to talk to you and answer questions. It is OK to make mistakes!
Who are Conversation Cafés for?
We welcome anyone who is learning English and who wants to practice speaking it.
When and where?
This Conversation Cafe takes place in Beaumont in the Eaglemont Church building (5002 62 Street, Beaumont), Thursday evenings 7–8:30pm, starting October 15. If you would like to sign up, please click the "REGISTER HERE" button below and complete the form.
How Does a Conversation Café Work?
Conversation Cafés are at an intermediate to advanced level of English. Each “Café” typically lasts 90 minutes. Every week, participants receive an email that includes the conversation guide (a document with the topic for the week, the questions about the topic, and some expressions).
Each week we enjoy our conversations around some tea and snacks. We start with approximately 10 minutes of general conversation all together. Then we divide into small groups of two or three participants with a volunteer for the rest of the time.
Discussion Questions?
In the small groups, a topic is introduced (for example, travel, hobbies, food). Volunteers and participants take turns asking and answering questions about the topic.
Expressions?
Each Café ends with a few English expressions related to the weekly theme. Lastly, everyone comes together again to say a short good-bye.
